FACILITIES | The Hyatt Regency has an impressive fitness centre featuring loads of workout machines, a sizable indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room, and three tennis courts. However, our favourite place to relax is the bamboo-ensconced Zen garden of the Japanese Yoshimi restaurant. Alternatively, you can dine on teppanyaki at Teppan Grill or a smorgasbord of Latin American favourites at the all-day Rulfo.

ROOMS | Whoever designed the Hyatt Regency loves a bit of recess lighting, creating a moody ambience throughout the standard rooms. While we’d be lying if we said we didn’t find the hotel’s dull exterior a bit of a blot on the landscape, the architect has at least incorporated some of the best windows in town, offering an almost movie-like wide-angle view of the city from every lodging.

#8 Hotel Marquis Reforma – Sustainably-Minded Design.

Sustainability is a key focus for the Hotel Marquis, which incorporates green living walls, LED lighting, and motion-triggered sensors to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency.

LOCATION | The Bosque de Chapultepec and the Angel de la Independencia are both close by, with all the restaurants and shops of the Paseo de la Reforma to choose from in terms of dining and retail options.

FACILITIES | As we’ve already mentioned, the Hotel Marquis has an excellent spa, which includes a pool, a gym, a sauna, and steam rooms, among other facilities. There’s also a pair of Mexican restaurants and one influenced by Japanese grill techniques.

ROOMS | Most of the best views at the Hotel Marquis are reserved for the suites, which means the standard rooms have windows that look out on the hotel interior – in other words, don’t expect to see the city. These lodgings are also fairly brown and staid, though they can accommodate two doubles or a king-sized bed, offering flexibility for families.

Best Mid-Range Mexico City Hotels with Pool

Not all Mexico City hotels with pools come at a premium. Part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, the Umbral is situated in a gorgeous period building with a roseate façade, combining colonial-style architecture with a flashy modern sundeck.

LOCATION | Mexico City’s Zocalo, the Palacio Nacional, Metropolitan Cathedral, and other attractions of the historic centre are a stone’s throw away. The nearby metro station supplies the means to visit other parts of the metropolis easily.

FACILITIES | Aside from the shallow outdoor pool and the accompanying deck, you can also relax in the laidback Paxia restaurant – make sure to ask for a table on the terrace for views over the city square. The Umbral also contains a compact fitness centre, a small bar, and a business centre.

ROOMS | One of the more unusually designed Mexico City hotels with rooftop pool facilities, the Umbral uses curtains to create the illusion of space in its modern, comfortable rooms. 

Some of these rooms feel a little dark due to only having windows that look out on the building’s internal courtyard – though we suppose that’s the price you pay for staying in a hotel housed in a former mansion instead of a newly built skyscraper.

#10 Círculo Mexicano – Mexico City Rooftop Pool Overlooking the Centro Historico.

Hotels always pique our interest with a unique design ethos. The Ambrosi Etchegaray architectural firm has clearly enunciated that at the Circulo Mexicano, which is an exemplar of modern minimalism.

LOCATION | Facing the Catedral Metropolitana, the hotel is a short walk from the Zocalo, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, and the Allende metro station.

FACILITIES | While the pool here isn’t the biggest, we still rate it for having some of the best views of the historic centre. Grab a drink up here, or head down to the ground floor, where there’s a restaurant and café.

ROOMS | There are just 25 rooms in this 19th-century mansion, each boasting crisp, bright white walls and linens that are offset by blond wood wardrobes and chairs. These may not be the largest lodgings you’ll find among Mexico City hotels with pools, but their minimalist design makes the accommodation seem spacious.

#11 Barceló Mexico Reforma – Go for The Location, Stay For the Tequila Museum.

A prime location with excellent transport links makes the Barceló Mexico Reforma a highly desirable place to stay, with loads of food and beverage options on-site.

LOCATION | Towards the eastern end of the Paseo de la Reforma, this hotel is well situated for visits to the Monumento a la Revolucion, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, and the tiny museum dedicated to one of Diego Rivera’s most famous murals. Several metro stations lie within a 10-minute walk.

LOCATION | The hotel is a couple of streets over from the Monumento a la Revolucion, with buses running down the length of the Paseo de la Reforma, making it simple to head west to the Bosque de Chapultepec or east to the Centro Historico.

FACILITIES | Dubbed the Hub, the ground-floor restaurant and bar is the hotel’s heart. Meanwhile, the fitness centre and swimming pool are consigned to the basement.

ROOMS | While the facilities are mid-range, the suites offer excellent bang for your buck. Even the smallest options are a not inconsequential 517 square feet, including two beds, a sofa, a little kitchenette area, and a bathroom. The furnishings are comfortable, modern, and inoffensive.

#13 Andaz Mexico City – Best Rooftop Pool Mexico City in The Mid-Range Bracket.

The Andaz brand is known for having hotels in trendy parts of town, so it’s no surprise that the Mexico City branch is in the boho hangout of La Condesa, surrounded by art galleries and bars.

ROOMS | A smattering of artwork alongside distinctive light fixtures lend an upmarket bohemianism to the rooms that are perfectly in keeping with the Condesa area.

#14 Hilton Mexico City Reforma – One of The Most Well-Equipped Mexico City Hotels With Pools.

Boasting not one but two pools, the Hilton Mexico City Reforma offers solid facilities both inside and out.

LOCATION | Set a little from the Paseo de la Reforma, a short walk from the Alameda Central municipal park, the Hilton is just a short walk from the Reforma metro station.

FACILITIES | We’re not sure what we like more: hanging out by the rooftop pool, where you’ll also find a laidback eatery with city views, or relaxing in the spa, where you can enjoy facials, massages, and an indoor pool. 

There are also two further restaurants in situ: El Cardenal, which cooks up traditional dishes in a consciously old-fashioned space, and the Sonora Grill Prime, a modern steakhouse with the air of somewhere Patrick Bateman would feel at home.

ROOMS | A dark brown colour palette imbues the rooms here with a smart, muted air balanced by the light flooding in from the large windows, which offer views of the surrounding cityscape. Opt for either two standard double beds or a single extra-large double.

#15 Sheraton Mexico City Maria Isabel – A Bargain Business Hotel.

For a 5-star hotel, even one of a slightly older model, the Sheraton Mexico City Maria Isabel’s nightly rates are almost unbeatable.

LOCATION | Overlooking the Angel de la Independencia, the Sheraton is a leisurely stroll from the Zona Rosa and the Mercado de Artesanias, where you can pick up some local handicrafts.

FACILITIES | Traditional Mexican, Italian, and Japanese are all on offer at the Sheraton Mexico City Maria Isabel. However, our personal favourite is Jorongo Bar, where you can enjoy a cocktail while taking in a live mariachi band. There’s also a heated outdoor pool, a sauna, and a fitness centre.

ROOMS | Leaning towards the old-fashioned side, the classic rooms in the Danubio Tower of the Sheraton were clearly last updated in the 90s, though for the nostalgic, that style of stay may appeal. For something more modern, make sure you book a room in the Reforma Tower, which was more recently renovated to something more appropriate to the current millennium.
